Dave CDWA (00:02)
Welcome back to the Comic Dudes, podcast about comic books and comic book related things. My name is Dave with me as always, my esteemed co-host and NASCAR aficionado, Matt. How are you?
Matt - "&" (00:17)
First of all, praise Dale. Praise Dale Earnhardt. But Dave, I'm doing good. I've been floating all day like a certain astronaut in an issue of this comic, waiting to hear what my brothers are gonna educate me with tonight. I'm on cloud nine right now. I'm doing real good.
Y Not? (00:32)
Damn. Spoilers.
Dave CDWA (00:34)
Okay.
Yeah. Also with us, since it's a Let's Read, that means we also have our other esteemed co-host Erik. Erik, how are you? How are things?
Matt - "&" (00:38)
I'm laying it on thick.
Y Not? (00:49)
I'm doing well. I mean, as well as as I could be getting over COVID. It's my third time, I think the worst time, but feeling a lot better than I was just a few days ago. So
Dave CDWA (00:54)
Hmm.
Matt - "&" (00:54)
no. Ooh.
Dave CDWA (00:59)
Mmm.
Well, that's good. I'm glad to hear you're getting better.
Matt - "&" (01:04)
you were sick then. You
said you were sick. I didn't know you were sick. You were sick. You're sick.
Y Not? (01:05)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, really.
I was like, couldn't get out of bed sick. Actually, I had, from what the doctor says, I had norovirus, then recovered and two or three days later got COVID.
Matt - "&" (01:10)
man.
Yes.
Yup. That's bad. That's bad, dude.
Dave CDWA (01:18)
What the hell is Norovirus?
Y Not? (01:21)
It sucks. It's
like, it's like two or three days of like intense sickness, and then you're okay.
Dave CDWA (01:30)
What kind of sickness, like?
Y Not? (01:32)
Like if you had the flu concentrated into like two days, like fever and, and aches and pains and fatigue and mental haze, it's like real intense sick for a couple of days and then it's gone.
Matt - "&" (01:37)
It's rough.
Dave CDWA (01:48)
So it's not like Ebola bad.
Y Not? (01:50)
No, no, no, not not. It's not Ebola Rama.
Dave CDWA (01:52)
good. Matt's face
Matt - "&" (01:52)
City Boa.
Dave CDWA (01:55)
it looked it horrified.
Matt - "&" (01:56)
I mean, it's bad, it's not
that bad, it's bad. It's not that bad, Ebola.
Y Not? (01:57)
No, I'd rather have that than
Dave CDWA (01:59)
Look, that
man looked like you were on Death's Door and I should have known better. Okay. Was a priest by the house? Did anyone come to give you last rites?
Y Not? (02:00)
COVID. No, no.
Matt - "&" (02:04)
should have sent him flower arrangement or something, some candies or something. I didn't know. Yeah, he
Y Not? (02:06)
I'll take a flower.
Matt - "&" (02:11)
said he was sick. I didn't know he was that sick. My goodness.
Y Not? (02:13)
Yeah.
Dave CDWA (02:14)
Okay, good. Well, I'm glad you're on the mend. Glad you're on the mend.
Y Not? (02:15)
Now I'm all right. I'm okay. Thanks. I'm okay. Everything's good.
Dave CDWA (02:20)
I have been, and so has Abby, lucky enough to miss the COVID and flu waves that are never ending here in Texas right now, so.
Y Not? (02:29)
Yeah,
yeah, same same here. It's like serious flu. Everybody's getting it.
Dave CDWA (02:36)
Stupid I hate it Anyway, if you'd like to talk about getting sick with us you can join our discord and you talk about that and Comic books and video games and all kinds of other fun stuff That's the best way to keep up with the podcast and interact with us However, if you don't want to join the discord, you can follow us on Instagram we post regularly on there as well a few times a week and I haven't been doing this as much lately, but I'm back on my bullshit. Yeah.
Matt - "&" (02:46)
you
Dave CDWA (03:04)
If you listen to this podcast and you like it, share it on Instagram, share it on Facebook, share it on Blue Sky, don't share it on X. I don't care about X, yeah.
Y Not? (03:13)
Now fuck that.
If you're down with the sickness, join the discord and share the podcast.
Matt - "&" (03:19)
Yes.
Dave CDWA (03:20)
Yes,
absolutely. I couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you. So this is a Let's Read episode as mentioned. If you don't know how those work, let me tell you. We read for a year, we will spend reading a comic together and then we talk about it once a month. This year we're reading Why the Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. Guerra? Guerra? We talked about this last time and I've forgotten. Okay. I looked it up and then I forgot. So
Y Not? (03:44)
think it's Squarer.
Dave CDWA (03:49)
We'll read one volume a month and then we'll talk about it. know a few people in the Discord are reading it too, so that's fun to talk about it with them after an episode drops as well. But I'll recap what we read, hitting the high notes, leaving out some things. So if you want to read it yourself, I won't spoil everything. Then we'll talk about the things we liked, the good, the things we did, and the bad. And then this one brings up questions as we read it. So we'll close out each one of these episodes with just...
questions that we have, maybe things we want to know, need answers for, maybe want to see, who knows. But without further ado for me, is there any further ado from either of you?
Y Not? (04:31)
None.
Dave CDWA (04:32)
Alright, let's recap this bitch. Whoa, my PDF's going crazy. Okay, Why The Last Man, Volume 2, cycles. We start off Volume 2 with Yorick, Agent 355, and Dr. Mann getting passage on a train heading to California. So if you remember, we ended last month. They didn't know what to do, whether they were gonna go back to DC, did they go to California, do they stay in Boston, do they go to Australia?
The answer is California to get Dr. Mann's backup research. But they're riding a livestock car filled with pigs. While they're riding on the train, some women jump on and try to shake them down for money. One of them throws Yorick off the train. 355 handles the other, and then her and Dr. Mann also have to jump off this train to catch up to Yorick. Meanwhile,
the Amazons and Yorick's sister, Hiro, are still hunting this one man that is left on earth. And at this point, Hiro has a realization that the man they're hunting may in fact be her brother, Yorick. At the end of this issue, Yorick is found unconscious in a field by a woman. Surprise, everyone is a woman except for Yorick. Yorick then wakes up in a strange bed. The girl who found him
Matt - "&" (05:50)
you
Y Not? (05:50)
You
Matt - "&" (05:55)
you
Dave CDWA (05:57)
took him in, got him settled, and you know kind of got him on the mend. Her name is Sonia. She ends up telling the whole town of 67 women about Yorick. They're in Ohio when this happens, Maristville, Ohio, as a matter of fact. 355, however, was not so lucky. She injured her head pretty bad when she jumped out of the train, so she sends Dr. Mann on her own to try to find why. And she does find him in the town.
Convinces Yorick and Sonia to go back with her to get agent 355 Meanwhile the Amazons are closing in And we also find out that there's a secret in this town or about this town That the women don't want getting out and they specifically tell Sonia like not to say anything about So Yorick and Sonia they're back and dr. Mann are back with agent 355 Yorick and Sonia go out to get some firewood
There's quite a bit of flirting, some heavy flirting, a little bit of kissing. And then Sonia just shatters like glass, tells him everything. They're all convicts. They were let out of the prison that is close to Maristville, Ohio, when all of the men died. And none of the prison guards wanted to stick around. So all of the convicts that were left alive just settled in that town and set up a pretty nice little society that they've got going there.
Of course, Yorick goes straight back to the town and then has yet another holier than thou moment to like he had an issue number one where he's telling them all that they're horrible people. They need to be in jail. Even though they've nursed him back to health and are currently nursing Agent 355 back to health, Yorick doesn't have a ton of self-awareness. This, unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, gets interrupted by Hero and the Amazons and they're there to kill Yorick. Despite Yorick being a
massive douchebag. The women of Marysville do decide to help Yorick escape, but instead he just goes out the front door to give himself up to the Amazons. I'm assuming thinking that he can convince Hiro not to kill him. While their leader is just going on and on about killing him, really doing like a good super villain, here's my whole plan type of a rant, Sonia, I guess, gets tired of listening, throws an axe at the leader of the Amazons and kills her.
Hero then immediately kills Sonia and Yorick grabs a gun and points it directly in Hero's face. This issue, our second to last issue in the trade, ends with Hero looking at Yorick and saying, it, please. Ultimately, Hero lives and everyone decides that her and the rest of the Amazons that are still alive should be put in jail in Marisville.
and the women of Maristville will let them out when they're rehabilitated. Yorick gets his haircut by Agent 355. They hop on a train and they're back on their way to California. We also see Alter again. Her and that faceless source in Washington, DC speak again while Alter is stealing a military helicopter since they've lost theirs.
We also see at the end of this issue, there's two key things that happen. One, heroes smuggles a key into the jail. And then lastly, in an epilogue, we are taken into space to a space station with some astronauts aboard, and they're not all women. So we learn that whatever affected all of the men is contained to the earth. If you were in space,
were still alive. However, if you were on a plane, you died because all the planes crashed. We talked about that. You had to be in space. Anyway, that is how volume two ends.
Matt - "&" (09:49)
Yep.
Good stuff. Good recap. Good recap.
Y Not? (09:58)
Yeah. Yeah.
Dave CDWA (09:59)
Quick recap, didn't take five, six
minutes.
Matt - "&" (10:03)
Good recap. No.
Y Not? (10:05)
didn't take very long to read this issue either.
Dave CDWA (10:08)
No, was
quick. I think we're all still a little shell shocked by how long the boys took to read that these quick trades just feel like super weird. But this is probably how it's supposed to be.
Y Not? (10:09)
I blasted through it.
Matt - "&" (10:14)
Yes.
Y Not? (10:17)
Yeah.
Matt - "&" (10:17)
Yes, I would agree with that.
Yeah. What'd you say? The syndrome? can't remember the syndrome. We reading the boys. You're like, so you had Stockholm syndrome for sure. It's like this how comics are supposed to be. was anyone else getting like serious? Like Robert Kirkman read walking or Robert Kirkman was inspired a lot and walking dead while reading this. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Well.
Dave CDWA (10:25)
We had Stockholm syndrome. Yeah.
Y Not? (10:26)
Yeah.
Walking dead.
Dave CDWA (10:41)
Yes, I actually wrote that down in my notes
Y Not? (10:42)
Yes, I also have that in my notes.
Matt - "&" (10:47)
Well, why did you guys think so? Like, I don't know. Like was one of my, that was one of my positives or things. Like this whole Mayorsville thing reminded me of Woodbury from Walking Dead. Like, so I was just like Kirkman, you know, he definitely was probably inspired. Yeah.
Dave CDWA (11:02)
I think there's maybe some inspired by going on there.
I think for me it's it's close to walking dead in that we're exploring air quoting like a post apocalyptic event. But the world hasn't really seen a total societal collapse, so it's still pretty familiar. It's dangerous. It's intended to make you feel a little uneasy, but also still safe enough to let your guard down so you can be surprised by a lot of what's happening.
Matt - "&" (11:14)
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Dave CDWA (11:32)
To me, it kind of feels like we're seeing America through the looking glass, but it's not completely distorted and different.
Y Not? (11:41)
Yeah. You know, last last issue, I compared this journey to Wizard of Oz a bit. And this one I definitely wrote, I like that although there's this distinct The Walking Dead vibe to their, their travel across the country to, I mean, in in the early stages of Walking Dead, it's to get to the CDC and try to hopefully find answers and stuff. And this sort of has that they have to get to her lab so she can see if she can figure out how to save humanity.
But along the way, they meet all these people, right? Groups of people, little settlements that are trying to figure it out for themselves. And in The Walking Dead, notoriously and humorously, no matter who they meet, they always turn out to be evil in some way. But in this, that isn't the case so far. Because the people of Maristville, it's, they're sort of a subversion of expectations, right? You're like, something's wrong. They're going to be bad. they're all criminals. And in the end,
Matt - "&" (12:12)
great point.
Dave CDWA (12:17)
Mm-hmm.
Matt - "&" (12:30)
Mmm.
Y Not? (12:41)
They're not, they just want to live their lives and do the right thing. Even if we do have some groups like the Amazons that are so lawful evil, it's almost humorous, you know?
Dave CDWA (12:51)
Yeah, you know, I think some of that is just I mean it's just how Brian Kayvon sees the world because there's a lot of that like seeing the best in others and you know, most people aren't evil in Saga. I think this has been a theme through most of his works his independent works at least So it's obviously it's a more refined type of
writing in saga than it is when he's in his mid-20s, but nonetheless.
Y Not? (13:21)
Sure. think one of
anything that I've read that Brian Kayvon has wrote, there's always this level of people are opportunists and given the opportunity, they might do something bad or hurtful, but most people aren't at their core evil. And I think that that's true in this book as well.
That was actually one of my positives was I like that this book does things that subvert your expectations like that. And like when the leader of the Amazon is killed, Yorick is willing to kill his sister, which you wouldn't have expected. You know, he's like, she should die. Wow. Okay. I like that. You know, I called out in the first issue, first volume that, Yorick is an escape artist. I'm sure that's going to come in handy. feels like they're telegraphing.
Matt - "&" (13:56)
Yeah, there's, yeah. Yeah.
Y Not? (14:11)
And it turns out, Hiro goes, I learned some of my brother's tricks. He's an escape artist. It's going to help Hiro escape. And I was like, okay, there are things here that I didn't see coming, which is pretty neat. I like I like that aspect of the
Dave CDWA (14:22)
Mm-hmm.
Matt - "&" (14:26)
BKB baby, he knows what he's doing.
Y Not? (14:28)
Yeah. My other good is
I like that Sonia was excited to find Yorick and she still liked him even though he shit his pants.
Dave CDWA (14:37)
Yeah. Yeah, she did.
Y Not? (14:39)
She didn't
even care. She was like, hey, you know, I washed your underwear for you.
Dave CDWA (14:44)
It's real solid woman right there. Not gonna judge you for shitting yourself.
Matt - "&" (14:45)
Yeah, need to...
Y Not? (14:46)
Real solid.
Hell yeah.
Matt - "&" (14:52)
This was the first... I mean, we're not super far in, but Yorick's like... Yorick is also my... Things I don't love either, but like Yorick's hero moment... Like, he finally kind of had like a hero moment for me when he's just like...
He's gonna do the Spock and do what's good for the greater good than himself and sacrifice himself and turn himself over. And the line where he's like, told Sonia, I'm sorry, I kissed you two times, immediately takes me back to one of my favorite movies, which is The Empire Strikes Back and Han Solo and the Princess Leia line, I love you, I know. That made me think of that, so I immediately liked that moment a lot more, probably than I should have, but you're...
Y Not? (15:36)
It was a good
moment.
Matt - "&" (15:38)
Yeah, like Yorick, he's got a little Han Solo in him, I just think he's too reckless, man. Like you're the last person, the last man on earth and you're really reckless. yeah, I like that. Yeah, yeah, okay. And then like my other really thing that I liked is like BKV, like even in Saga, you know, I read like 10 volumes, I'm not current, but like he's the closest guy to Kirkman.
Dave CDWA (15:50)
Yeah, that's when we get to the bad, I've got some thoughts there.
Y Not? (15:53)
same.
Matt - "&" (16:06)
Like for me, Kirkman and Dave exposing me to Kirkman, like he was the first person that gave me the anticipation after every issue, like every issue of the series. Like in BKV is like the master of that. Like just reading this, like issue seven, Yorick being found by Sonia. Issue eight, issue eight, 355 crack in her head wasn't even like a last page turn, but it kind of was for me. Like I had to stop reading for a second. I was like, crap. And then,
Issue nine, Victoria getting the axe upside the head. Like once again, full page spread epic and issue nine with Yorick pointing the gun at his sister. Like that was a big cliffhanger moment for me. So that's just four I just rattled off that I took notes on real quick. BKV is a master at that. Like I could not, I would hate reading this series month to month. Cause I would just like invincible. I hated it. Cause it was just like, what's going on next? You know, so.
Dave CDWA (16:59)
Yeah.
Honestly,
Y Not? (17:06)
I like that's part of, go ahead.
Dave CDWA (17:06)
mean good no no
Y Not? (17:09)
I was gonna say, I feel like that's part of how Brian K. Vaughan writes. I think he writes to story beats. He, rather than saying, let me write X number of pages and it ends where it ends, I think he literally maps out a story by here are the beats I wanna, you know, start and end on, and then writes to fill in between, which works really well.
Matt - "&" (17:15)
so good at it.
Dave CDWA (17:29)
I think you're right based on some of the things that he's spoken about the plans for Saga during their very long hiatus. At the very beginning of that he said this comic's 108 issues. Like we're halfway. So he knew where it was ending. He knew what he was doing to get there. That was mapped out for a long time.
Matt - "&" (17:41)
He knew, yeah, he knew.
Y Not? (17:42)
knew it.
That make sense?
Dave CDWA (17:50)
smart. That's why he's a great writer. Yeah, it's hard for me to take notes while I read this. I have to go back and do it afterwards because I don't want to stop it. I'm telling you, like for the recaps, I have to jot down notes for each issue as I'm reading so I can form a recap that's at least somewhat coherent. And it is so hard for me to stop and write those notes while I'm reading this comic. I actually hate it because I just want to sit and read it. I want to do anything else.
Matt - "&" (17:52)
Yeah.
This is it.
Y Not? (18:19)
Yeah.
Matt - "&" (18:20)
I know you hate it, but like I have my like ultra wide monitor and I split it with notes on one side in the comic and like plug plug global comics is the shit dude. I'm really like their their readers really good, especially on PC. So like it's it's what I comics ology always was. But yeah, I have dual screens and like if something pops up. Yeah.
Dave CDWA (18:26)
Nice.
I
have free trials for Global Comics Gold to give out if anyone in the Discord is interested. Just mention that you heard me talk about this and I'll send you. It's only like a 7 or 10 day trial but you can try out Global Comics Gold for free. Yeah, they sent me some.
Matt - "&" (18:46)
really? Yes. Let us know.
Like it's awesome. That's how I've read all of this.
I had one other good- one last good.
Dave CDWA (19:04)
Yeah, hit it.
Matt - "&" (19:07)
That's a funny that you said hit it, but my one last good is I like girls, girls, girls, girls, girls. do a dude. Pia Guerra knows how to draw women of all shapes and sizes and ethnicities. And I don't just the facial. Ah, that's just such good art. It's a different style art. It's not like the superhero style art that I'm like always about, but it's a different style that I really like.
Dave CDWA (19:31)
Mm-hmm.
Matt - "&" (19:36)
And like honestly, that really old lady, can't remember her name, it's escaping me. Like just some of the emotions that Pia captured drawing that character specifically, I was just like, man, like this is good stuff here. Like the art really stood out to me in this volume. So that's all.
Dave CDWA (19:52)
Do you wanna take this opportunity to take another shot at Derek Robertson for some reason?
Matt - "&" (19:59)
I plead the fifth. I plead the fifth. No. No comment. No comment.
Dave CDWA (20:01)
Okay, just you never miss an opportunity. I thought maybe you'd want to Okay. Okay. All right
There's no bat or no good for me to really talk about that we haven't already talked about I'd love to kick off the bat. I only have one thing
Y Not? (20:08)
so funny.
Matt - "&" (20:15)
Okay. Kick it off, baby.
Kick it off.
Y Not? (20:18)
Hmm.
Dave CDWA (20:20)
To your again as a Groomer Friend or Cooked.
Matt - "&" (20:22)
They're cooked bro. What is he doing? Yeah, like. His church. heard that one. Like what? He's he is setting himself up for the biggest disappointment of all time. Like I cannot wait to get. It's going to be so sad. I just know it already, but or maybe.
Dave CDWA (20:24)
Absolutely cooked if he's willing to hook up with a former meth head who admitted she'd hit that crank right now if she had some They ain't gonna make it dude ain't gonna make it. It's over. It's church
It's over.
Matt - "&" (20:52)
Maybe my expectations will be subverted. Maybe Erik's right. I don't know. Maybe it'll all be happily ever after. I don't remember, but.
Dave CDWA (20:55)
Yeah, maybe.
Y Not? (20:58)
It is tough because
in just a few pages, they made Sonia such a likable character that you're like, I want this to work. I want them to be together. And she's like, you know, I was cooking meth and ended up, you know, being implicated and selling it and stuff. And she's like, and I would do it again right now. And I'm like, but you but you're not.
Matt - "&" (21:04)
Yes. Yes.
Yeah.
Dave CDWA (21:17)
Yeah, like if I had
some, yeah, if I had some, I'm smoking it right now.
Y Not? (21:22)
It
was just so easy to be like, but you're not, but you're not. You're cool now. You're super, you're okay.
Matt - "&" (21:27)
gosh.
Y Not? (21:28)
But
he did knowingly and willingly kiss her twice.
Dave CDWA (21:34)
Mm-hmm. He would have done more. He was... he wanted to.
Y Not? (21:37)
Probably.
Matt - "&" (21:41)
Mm, mm, mm.
Dave CDWA (21:43)
wasn't that long ago he was proposing to his girlfriend. Trying to. Has to, right? It has to.
Matt - "&" (21:45)
This is just, it's gonna end so bad. It's gonna end so bad.
Y Not? (21:46)
That's true.
I mean, that shows up in my questions. When we get to questions, I have questions
Matt - "&" (21:50)
Yeah, it's...
Y Not? (21:53)
about that.
Dave CDWA (21:54)
Okay, actually I lied I had I had one more I had one more bad I Dr man needs to take this passive of shit and pack it away. We don't need that right now
Matt - "&" (21:56)
Dave you set? Yeah, what? Yeah.
Y Not? (21:59)
Okay.
Matt - "&" (22:05)
Yeah,
you're to get somebody cooked too, because of that. You're about to get the whole group cooked.
Dave CDWA (22:09)
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah,
she's a liability. I don't like her. That's not true. I do like her, but that part of her I don't like.
Matt - "&" (22:15)
Like it's one thing to be-
It's hard to be like a pacifist a little bit, but like you're being attacked by these people and they're trying like, what are we doing here? What are we doing here? You don't want to, Dave pulled the gun and is going to shoot the pro. I'm not going to stop him. That she's actively stopping people. Like, what are we doing here? What about Yorick? Like flying off half cocked. said to kind of see if you've had the same thing. That was my bad Dave. You feel the same way or differently. Just I'm annoyed.
Dave CDWA (22:44)
I mean, I don't think it's bad. I think that's just one of his...
It's his primary flaw and I think that probably is just something that I have to accept as him.
Matt - "&" (22:49)
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah.
Y Not? (22:56)
I think that moment is there more to reinforce Yorick's mannerisms and temperament and values than anything else, because that was one of my negatives. They were building up to the secret at Maristville, Ohio, which is a fake place, doesn't actually exist. looked it up. And then when they, yeah, when they revealed it, I was super disappointed. I was like, with everything going on in the world, who cares that you were incarcerated? Look at what people are doing on the streets now.
Matt - "&" (23:04)
Yeah.
I was wondering, yeah.
Yeah.
Y Not? (23:25)
people are living
Dave CDWA (23:25)
Mm-hmm.
Y Not? (23:26)
these, you know, sort of roving gangs and killing people and stuff. I'm like, the fact that you cheated on your taxes, nobody gives a fuck at this point. Like it's fine. You know, who cares if you were smoking meth? Nobody cares at this stage, but like, especially considering they kind of had a seemingly idyllic town, like I would have been like, this is fine. You figured out how to fend for yourselves. This is good. But Yorick immediately is like so upset. He had to condemn them over it. And I'm like,
Matt - "&" (23:34)
You
Dave CDWA (23:35)
Great.
Matt - "&" (23:54)
Yeah.
Y Not? (23:54)
Over
over what? don't know. That was really it felt.
That was the one thing story-wise that I was like, you built up to something that didn't feel all that bad and then had Yorick really fly off the handle about it immediately. And I was like, I guess that's just to tell us more about Yorick because it didn't really tell us that much about that community.
Dave CDWA (24:18)
Hmm.
Y Not? (24:20)
So.
Dave CDWA (24:21)
Yeah, I'd
agree. I'd agree.
Matt - "&" (24:23)
I got two, I got two other things. One is a quote. If I, this is Yorick. If I give myself up, you referring to Dr. Mann in 355 can press on to California. Maybe work, maybe work your cloning mojo without me. Whatever happens, don't let them fuck with my monkey. When they sit, when I read that quote, I don't have that bond with a pet anymore. I used to have a pet. I immediately thought of like Dave and Dusty.
Like how much he loves Dusty. I swear to God, if anything happens to this monkey, like terror and the boys, I'm going to lose it. can't do, I can't endure it again. We can't, can't endure it again, guys. I can't endure another pet heartbreak.
Y Not? (25:06)
There has to be a purpose for ampersand to be in this. So far, we don't know what it is. But there will be a very meaningful moment, whether it's a story plot point or like a meaningful like, hey, the monkey is the key to finding out, you know, why certain people, the monkey will be important. You think you think the monkey is there for nothing?
Matt - "&" (25:24)
Let's go.
Dave CDWA (25:27)
I don't actually I disagree. I don't I don't think he's in.
He strikes me more as like dog meat and fall out like he's it's great to have him around. He's a wonderful companion. He does some cool stuff from time to time but not integral to the plot.
Matt - "&" (25:34)
Hehehehehe
Y Not? (25:41)
I don't know. feel like I just might my gut is that as a person who hasn't already read this Dave, that ampersand is is important somewhere.
Matt - "&" (25:49)
Shatsa!
Dave CDWA (25:49)
I don't remember it.
You're setting me up like I'm spoiling things.
No, I don't remember.
Y Not? (25:57)
Okay, all right. All right, fair enough.
Dave CDWA (25:58)
remember two things.
Y Not? (26:02)
When we get to them, you can tell us now.
Matt - "&" (26:02)
You want me to spoil him right now?
Dave CDWA (26:04)
No, no,
I remember, I vaguely remember how things wrap up at the end. And I remember the fate of one character and that's it. I don't remember anything else.
Y Not? (26:09)
Mm.
Okay. All
right. Well, I got a couple other, I guess, bads. I had to look this up because I wasn't sure who copied who because there was definitely some copying going on here. But I remember watching the TV show Last Man on Earth because you had this small group of people still alive on Earth. And then you find out on a space station, people are still alive because they weren't affected by whatever killed people on Earth. Well, it ended in 2018. So...
Matt - "&" (26:25)
Plagiarism.
Dave CDWA (26:25)
Hmm.
Spoiler, I haven't watched the show.
Y Not? (26:45)
I think the statute of limitations is up. Anyway, it was such an odd spoiler for me reading this because there's a woman that is spouting off about there's men in space there and people are like, you're crazy. You're crazy. And I immediately was like, is this, they're not going to have this exact same thing that was from that show, are they? And then the volume ended on the space station. was like, what the fuck? Same shit.
Dave CDWA (26:45)
It's on my list.
Matt - "&" (26:57)
yeah.
Was that how was
on last night on Earth too? There was a woman spouting about people on Earth or on space.
Y Not? (27:14)
No, I mean, there, could give you other spoilers, but the character is connected to the people that are alive, and eventually makes his way back to earth. So, and then my other bad is I totally forgot about altar in the Israeli Special Forces when they showed up, I was like, yeah, they're part of this. And I was kind of like, I don't know if I need that part of the story. I'm having fun with all this other stuff, but
Matt - "&" (27:17)
yeah, nailed it.
Dave CDWA (27:18)
Go
ahead, I'm not gonna watch it.
Matt - "&" (27:35)
You
Nah.
Y Not? (27:40)
And then my last bad was the racial and homophobic slurs caught me off guard. was like, Whoa, are we reading the boys? What's happening?
Matt - "&" (27:46)
This is,
these are light slurs at this point. We've been through so much. These are lights. I breeze right back.
Dave CDWA (27:47)
Eh.
Y Not? (27:49)
I'm, what?
I don't know if the slurs are light.
Dave CDWA (27:53)
If you compare
to the other slurs that we've endured in the last 12 months...
Matt - "&" (27:58)
This is
light work.
Y Not? (27:59)
It's true. It's true. just I wasn't ready for it. I was like, shit. OK.
Dave CDWA (28:05)
We've been a little desensitized.
Y Not? (28:09)
Yeah, yeah.
Matt - "&" (28:09)
I like how he's taking a very rational approach.
Dave CDWA (28:13)
I just, you know.
Y Not? (28:14)
That
I mean, quantity far fewer, like next to nothing. But quality still pretty significant.
Matt - "&" (28:17)
Yeah
Dave CDWA (28:26)
Fair.
Matt - "&" (28:28)
My last, my last bad. And this could be controversial. I think the trade should have ended with issue nine. I don't think we needed issue 10. I think we should, I think we should have ended with Yorick pointing the gun at hero. See you on volume three. I texted Dave. I normally don't text Erik or Dave when we talk about this, but I texted Dave. just like, I'm not going to have a lot of negative. you know, I'm not gonna have a lot of bad. I'm really enjoying this.
Dave CDWA (28:38)
Really?
You've had a few.
Matt - "&" (28:57)
I've had more than I thought. Yeah. After I finished it up, but I intentionally, like I read most of this and I intentionally stopped issue nine and gave myself the Robert Kirkman blue balls. I wanted to wait. I had to wait a day. I didn't want to keep, was like, I want to feel this pain. And then when I read issue 10, I was let down. I was like, this isn't as good. Like it was good, but it wasn't, I was like,
Dave CDWA (29:25)
Yeah,
Matt - "&" (29:26)
Cut to black, Pick up.
Dave CDWA (29:28)
I don't totally disagree. think ending the trade at issue nine would have felt very abrupt and short. But I do agree that the epilogue in issue 10, which was the entire issue, was a little disappointing.
Matt - "&" (29:43)
Yeah.
That's what kill me Yorick. Please. I'm sorry. I'll see you next next next time for the trade. That's $4.99 or 12 bucks for the trade. Like come on baby.
Dave CDWA (29:55)
If it wasn't for heroes smuggling that key into jail and the the astronaut reveal that issue is completely pointless
Matt - "&" (29:59)
That's true.
Yes.
Y Not? (30:06)
Yeah, I just went back to look and I, I don't know. I, I don't know if I agree that it should have ended at nine because there was those valuable points in issue 10, but I wonder if they could have. No, I don't know. I don't know.
Dave CDWA (30:06)
It is.
Matt - "&" (30:21)
No, you won it at nine. You won it at nine, that's all right. You won it at nine. Yes, it was a superior cliffhanger, yes.
Dave CDWA (30:22)
I think we could all agree that the end of issue 9 is the superior cliffhanger.
Y Not? (30:28)
Yes, for sure.
Yes. Also, is this is this trade called cycles? Because they said that what Sonia jokes that all their cycles sync up in the town, but also they're talking about how motorcycles are the preferred form of transportation now. And like Yorick gives the motorcycle to the train person and then she gets caught by the Amazons, which actually leads them to
Dave CDWA (30:38)
Yes.
Matt - "&" (30:41)
Yeah.
Y Not? (31:00)
like, so it's like a double cycles.
Matt - "&" (31:03)
This is the stuff I'm waiting all day to hear. This Erik analysis. This is what I'm talking about. You can only get this here on the Comic Dudes people. This is the only place you can get this kind of analysis.
Dave CDWA (31:06)
Hehehehehe
Y Not? (31:11)
There you go.
Dave CDWA (31:14)
That's true.
Y Not? (31:17)
There's probably more cycles, life cycles.
Dave CDWA (31:18)
I don't know if that's true.
Matt - "&" (31:19)
They're
right.
Dave CDWA (31:22)
We just played with Life Cycles last week actually remember them San Antonio, yeah Different vocalists now, but everyone else I think is pretty much the same members Yeah, there's they skew a lot more like crossover now Very their newest their newest EP is really really good Yeah, they also they were on tour with mall the band that we were supposed to play with and haul it out Right when kovat started that show got canceled
Y Not? (31:25)
yeah, they're from San Antonio. Yeah.
Matt - "&" (31:27)
You
Y Not? (31:32)
That's cool.
kind of tracks that kind of tracks. Yeah.
yeah. I, I watched the most recent or half of it. I want I didn't finish it yet. But the hard lore podcast, YouTube show, and they were at where were they? LDB, fya, whatever was in Florida last month. Fy. Yeah. Yeah. And they were just asking people, what are your four favorite hardcore albums of all time? And somebody said anything by sanity slip. And I went, Whoa.
Dave CDWA (32:02)
Mm.
FYA is in Florida in January every year.
Okay. Cool. Yeah. Anyway, back to why the last man. Sorry, I took us off track there a little bit. Yeah. Do we are we ready to talk questions or do we have more bad things? It feels like our discussion has been mostly focused on the bad things from this trade. However, it's a little nitpicky because it was so good, but we've spent more time talking about the bad, but not in a bad way. Not like we're not enjoying it.
Y Not? (32:22)
Okay, interesting. That is cool.
yeah, why the last man? Yeah.
No bad things.
Matt - "&" (32:44)
That's good though. I love this. I loved it.
Y Not? (32:47)
It was it was great.
Almost none of our bad was like literal bad though it was all like let's let's have a discussion about this aspect. What did you think of this?
Dave CDWA (32:56)
Right, exactly.
Yeah,
it's not bad like the boys was bad.
Matt - "&" (33:00)
Most of my bad
Y Not? (33:03)
Yeah.
Matt - "&" (33:04)
is me giving myself penance and blue balls, reading the issues that has nothing to do with the actual work. I feel like that's a judging statement.
Dave CDWA (33:07)
Yeah, that's fair. Yeah, if you wanted to edge yourself to Y the Last Man, I'm not here to judge.
Y Not? (33:11)
Yeah. Yeah, comic edging. It's the hot new trend.
Dave CDWA (33:14)
Yeah.
Should we change the name of the podcast to Comic Edgers?
Matt - "&" (33:19)
That'd be our third revision.
Y Not? (33:23)
yeah, I kind of like that.
Dave CDWA (33:26)
Comic Edgers? Yeah.
Y Not? (33:27)
Yeah, yeah, it's good.
It's a double entendre for me and Dave and it doesn't apply to Matt. Except for the like it only applies in one one way to Matt. Yeah.
Dave CDWA (33:33)
Right.
Matt - "&" (33:35)
You
Dave CDWA (33:38)
We could read lot more Zenoscope books too.
Y Not? (33:40)
hell yeah.
Matt - "&" (33:42)
Once again, deep analysis by Erik. Once again, I'm just saying.
I gotta do this.
Dave CDWA (33:48)
Alright,
so questions. Who wants to start with questions?
Matt - "&" (33:52)
Because semen is poison. I'll leave it at that.
Y Not? (33:56)
That is a statement. Yes, it is. Yeah, that was a whole weird thing where Victoria is talking to hero and she's like, you saw your brother's penis, did it disgust you and all that and I was like, what, are we talking about? She was
Dave CDWA (33:56)
It's not a question, but that is an astute observation.
Matt - "&" (34:05)
I like
Yeah.
Dave CDWA (34:13)
Yeah, that woman's on
like some Charles Manson
Y Not? (34:16)
big time manipulation and control. Absolutely.
So I'll start with a question and it's one that I mentioned earlier. They're really building up whatever is going on with your ex girlfriend, Beth in Australia. It came up multiple times in this trade as he was like, you know, I'm a bad person because I kissed, you know, what's her name? Sonia. And they're not giving us any information. We are not seeing Beth's side since
Matt - "&" (34:38)
Sonia.
Y Not? (34:45)
what the very first issue I think. And I know that's intentional. And I do I mean, you're supposed to wonder what the situation is. And I do. But considering what they're setting up, I mean, it could be any number of things. But I think the chances of Beth still being your ex girlfriend waiting for him, whatever is pretty minimal at this stage.
Matt - "&" (34:46)
Yeah, first issue.
Dave CDWA (35:12)
She's gotta
be with somebody else. Well, not if it's a woman.
Y Not? (35:14)
Well, whoever it is is probably dead. That's
true. That's true, which they could go that direction or they could go, you know, she was with somebody. That's why she didn't say yes on the phone. But now that person's dead and she's like, well, okay, you're the last guy. So, okay, I don't know.
Dave CDWA (35:21)
Although...
Well, she better get to smoking that meth so she can be a desirable partner. If hit that crank.
Y Not? (35:36)
Yeah, because that's what he's into.
Matt - "&" (35:38)
That crane.
Y Not? (35:41)
hell yeah. I so the question is, how long do we wait? How long do we wait to get the answer?
Dave CDWA (35:44)
That Walter White.
Matt - "&" (35:45)
What the?
Dave CDWA (35:48)
who knows.
Y Not? (35:50)
Maybe never.
Dave CDWA (35:53)
I feel like eventually it has to resolve, right? There's no way he's just going to forget about his girlfriend slash fiance in Australia. Like, it's clear he is single-minded in this regard.
Y Not? (35:56)
I would think so.
Matt - "&" (36:06)
Yeah.
Y Not? (36:06)
Yes.
Yes.
Dave CDWA (36:08)
So there has to be resolution, even if the resolution is him just finally giving up on it, there has to be some kind of resolution.
Y Not? (36:14)
It's part of his values, right? This is one of the few core values we have for this character is that he is at least 90 % dedicated to Beth.
Matt - "&" (36:16)
Yeah.
Dave CDWA (36:17)
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. The weird thing is that he was, he had no interest in the dead body collecting model from volume one, but so much interest in the woman that cleaned his shitty underwear and told him she used to smoke meth.
Y Not? (36:31)
I have another.
what tells you more about your also, he he does he does admit in this issue in this volume, that at first he thought maybe it would be fun being the last guy alive. Like he kind of references that and then he's like, but no, I have a girlfriend. So
Dave CDWA (36:50)
It does.
Yeah, that's true.
Matt - "&" (37:06)
I'm going to be fully transparent here. This was about, geez, probably 20 years, no, 20, 15 years ago. I was really sick one night and I was staying at my girlfriend's house and I shit my, I shit the bed, like literally shit the bed. And she washed the sheets. That's my wife now. No big deal. I'm just saying, Yorick, that's a judge of a woman. If you can shit the bed, that's marriage material. I'm putting it out there.
Dave CDWA (37:19)
Yes.
Y Not? (37:31)
Fair enough.
Dave CDWA (37:33)
I'm so glad you told that story. I wanted you
Y Not? (37:35)
Pfft.
Dave CDWA (37:35)
to. I remember this. This is one of my favorite Matt stories, actually.
Matt - "&" (37:36)
I'm putting it out there. Yeah, I'm just putting it out
there. I'm just putting it out there. Dude, it was awful. It was awful. Like, she was like, you know, we're together. Like, you snap off at each other. It was like three o'clock in the morning. She was like super calm, cool, and collected. I was like, you know what? This one's for you.
Y Not? (37:40)
That sucks. That sucks for you. Yeah.
There you go. Yeah.
Dave CDWA (37:55)
Went out and bought the ring that weekend.
Matt - "&" (38:01)
Financed it on my one buddies account so they it's on a different name so they when she would go do the ring cleanings They'd be like looking at her sideways like is she like gonna download with this other dude like it was great. It's great Great great stories, but yeah, yes Even though I hated the cliffhanger to issue 10, it's raining men. Hallelujah What's going on with these astronauts up in space? We got to know what's going on Yeah, like is it like that is it like that?
Dave CDWA (38:09)
Love it.
I if they touch down they're dead right? Like they're gonna die. I don't know.
I think it has to be.
Y Not? (38:30)
So.
Matt - "&" (38:31)
The floor is lava.
Y Not? (38:32)
I thought about that too.
In this instance, if they come back, is whatever killed off all the men still actively doing so because they haven't clarified that Yorick or ampersand are immune to whatever it is. They just clarified that wherever they were at whatever given time, they weren't part of whatever happened. So it's very possible that it was a
Matt - "&" (38:51)
Yeah.
Yeah.
Y Not? (39:01)
one-time singular event that killed off the men and these people come back and they're fine.
Dave CDWA (39:05)
True.
Matt - "&" (39:08)
now.
Dave CDWA (39:10)
My thinking here is that in these types of stories, this is an oft used mechanic where we give you a glimmer of hope only to very viciously take this away from you down the line. So I don't think there's any way those male astronauts, they either do not survive when they come back down, if they come back down and they just die like all the other men did, or like they have the.
the misfortune of landing in a group of Amazons and just get like, murked immediately.
Matt - "&" (39:42)
That would be hilarious actually. I would really
like that. That would be hilarious.
Y Not? (39:47)
mean, they they made it really clear they're in a position where they can't stay where they are. So they have to try and come back. And unless there are women in communication with them, which I'm sure they're at least a portion of the people that were working at NASA and communicating with the space station or women. Do they have enough people to successfully get them back to Earth?
Dave CDWA (39:47)
Yeah
Yeah.
Yeah, who knows.
Y Not? (40:12)
Who knows if they've made it clear that in most places, they can't get the power grid running because they can't fly planes because they just don't have the people to do it. So getting somebody from space station to earth, that could be how they die as well.
Matt - "&" (40:14)
That's true, that's a good point, yeah.
Dave CDWA (40:28)
Yeah, them just like burning up in the atmosphere crashing and dying. Hilarious. Absolutely hilarious. That's the type of irony I enjoy. Is that irony? Is that technically irony? I don't know that's even irony.
Matt - "&" (40:29)
Horrible, yeah, like horrible desk.
Y Not? (40:30)
Yeah, yes, for sure.
you
Matt - "&" (40:38)
Sick,
he's sick.
Y Not? (40:42)
I don't
think it is.
Dave CDWA (40:44)
Yeah. Whatever that shit is, I like it.
Y Not? (40:48)
I have a question. Here's a question. So I think this is an issue 10 where Hiro is faced with being killed. This might have actually been in nine, I'm not sure, but Hiro is like, go ahead and kill me because somebody will replace me and start spouting off all this wild stuff saying that she understands things that even Victoria didn't understand that she knows about the sacred cave, the dandelion league.
Dave CDWA (41:01)
I think it
Y Not? (41:17)
the backwards eight. And she even knows why Mother Earth killed the men but kept the women alive. I couldn't tell whether I thought this is just stuff that Victoria was telling her to control her or whether it's stuff she was making up on the spot to try and intimidate or scare them. There is an indication that she might have been making stuff up because there's a stutter in what she says she says something like the the backwards eight. Like there's a couple of ellipses there.
It was really interesting to me because I was like, does Hiro actually know something and what are these things or is she just making shit up?
Dave CDWA (41:54)
That's a good question.
Matt - "&" (41:56)
astute observation.
Dave CDWA (41:59)
Good question.
I don't know. I feel like the any affiliation with the Amazons especially being What maybe felt like the favorite child of their leader Victoria brings with it a certain amount of pressure and insanity And she also did cut one of her breasts off. I Just don't think that's a stable person at this point
Y Not? (42:23)
That's true.
No,
I like at some point in there, somebody calls them the amazon.com. And I was like, that's really stupid.
Matt - "&" (42:33)
You
Dave CDWA (42:36)
Well, you know.
Matt - "&" (42:36)
As
a professional wrestling fan, I like them being called the road warriors. Someone said that about them.
Y Not? (42:43)
yeah.
Dave CDWA (42:43)
I did
love the road warriors. I'll be honest. They had those cool like spiked shoulder pads and stuff. No, that was demolition
Y Not? (42:50)
That axe and smash demolition,
Matt - "&" (42:52)
That's demolition.
They were the WWF version of yes, yeah, animal and hawk, baby.
Y Not? (42:53)
but they didn't they have the the shoulder pads with the spikes. Road Warriors. OK. Yeah, got it.
Dave CDWA (42:55)
They did have those too, yes. Of the Road Warriors, yeah.
Y Not? (43:03)
Animal and hawk, okay. Last question. When Yorick wears the gas mask, does he disguise his voice in some way because nobody seems to know he's a man?
Dave CDWA (43:10)
Yes
He does they talked about that briefly in the first trade He was telling somebody there was his mom or 355 that he's practiced Increasing the pitch of his voice and he does a very convincing female voice
Y Not? (43:15)
Okay, I missed it. Okay.
Got it.
Got it. Okay. I missed that.
Matt - "&" (43:26)
so it goes
up. He doesn't do the Bane. They expect. They expect one of us in the wreckage, brother. I do think this gives me power. I love that movie. That's the best hot take. That's my favorite of that trilogy. I don't care what anyone says, but go ahead. I love it. I love it. Dude, I love it. I love it so much.
Dave CDWA (43:31)
No, why would he? That wouldn't help. Don't get me started on that movie.
Y Not? (43:35)
Why would a man still be alive?
Dave CDWA (43:48)
Shut up. No way.
Y Not? (43:49)
The third one? Matt, we
have stuff to talk about right now.
Matt - "&" (43:54)
I
love it so much because of Bane. Dude, I love the whole Bane thing. It's so great.
Y Not? (43:56)
it two one
three like two one dot dot dot three
Matt - "&" (44:03)
I understand
that two is a better movie. I understand. Three is my personal favorite though. Like, like I get it. I love they.
Dave CDWA (44:06)
Yes.
Y Not? (44:10)
Okay, fair enough, fair enough.
Dave CDWA (44:11)
I just know you didn't read
Knightfall. I know you didn't read it. I know you didn't. You don't have to confirm it. I know you didn't read it because the only people that would think that is the best Nolan movie didn't read Knightfall. The fact that they let Tom Hardy do that voice is sickening.
Matt - "&" (44:16)
No, I didn't read it.
Hey.
I love it.
Dave CDWA (44:33)
turns
my stomach.
Y Not? (44:34)
Have you watched the HBO show Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy? Is it just called Harley Quinn? Okay, I love it. It's really fun because it just basically skewers the DCEU. But the bane in that is fucking hilarious.
Dave CDWA (44:40)
No.
Matt - "&" (44:41)
Parts of it, not all of it.
Dave CDWA (44:53)
I know if I could do it, man. I don't like my Bane to be funny.
Y Not? (44:56)
It well, it's just making fun of that Bane. That is exactly what it is. Yes, it's 100 % just sort of a send up of the Bane in Dark Knight Rises.
Dave CDWA (45:01)
okay. Well, now I'm in.
Okay. Alright.
Y Not? (45:11)
He does the voice and everything.
Dave CDWA (45:15)
Maybe I'll check it out.
Matt - "&" (45:16)
It would be extremely painful. For you. These are so good quotes. I just looked up the quotes. This is so good.
Y Not? (45:25)
What do you think of Bane in Batman Forever?
Dave CDWA (45:26)
That's not good.
Matt - "&" (45:30)
I don't like that, babe.
Dave CDWA (45:30)
That's
a better Bane than in the Nolan movie.
Y Not? (45:33)
Mm-hmm.
Matt - "&" (45:33)
Dave
needs his bane on that crank. don't need my bane figure.
Dave CDWA (45:36)
Yeah, pump his ass full of venom, give
him that fucking luchador mask, get that motherfucker a South American or Mexican accent, I don't give a fuck where. It needs to be below the equator and have him break that fucking back.
Y Not? (45:42)
Hell yeah.
Matt - "&" (45:48)
This is...
Y Not? (45:54)
Hell yeah.
Matt - "&" (45:54)
break
that back. That's you're trying to do, break that back. Alright, that was good. Sorry to get us a tangent with Dark Knight Rises. I don't remember what we talking about, to be honest.
Dave CDWA (45:56)
I want Bane backshots.
Y Not? (45:58)
Yeah.
Dave CDWA (46:08)
No, no, this goes okay. We were sort of on topic.
Y Not? (46:13)
We're talking about why the last man.
Dave CDWA (46:13)
I don't either.
Yeah.
Matt - "&" (46:16)
What?
Dave CDWA (46:18)
So more questions. Any more? Do we have more? I have one.
Matt - "&" (46:22)
Is Hiro going to make a face turn at some point?
Y Not? (46:22)
what you got.
Mm.
Dave CDWA (46:26)
I
honestly think it's more likely that she dies than face turns, to be honest.
Matt - "&" (46:29)
Probably.
Y Not? (46:31)
Yeah.
Matt - "&" (46:32)
Who is the Inspector Gadget villain feeding alter this information? I need to know who that is. Like the person in the chair, who's giving this information up? Dr. Claw, thank you. Who's the?
Y Not? (46:40)
Who is Dr. Claw? Yeah.
Dave CDWA (46:44)
I mean, it's gotta be his mom, right? Who else could it be?
No one else knows. She kept it as, like, the only people that saw Yorick were, like, a couple secret service agents and those women of the dead congresspeople. That's it. And those women wouldn't know where he's at or what he's doing or who he's with.
Matt - "&" (46:51)
Ooh, that's a good point.
Y Not? (46:59)
Hmm.
Matt - "&" (46:59)
That's a
great point, I didn't even think of that.
Good point.
Y Not? (47:06)
You think mom might be sending them to retrieve and protect Yorick?
Dave CDWA (47:12)
I don't know. I don't know. Maybe there's a culprit ring tie there that has yet to be revealed. Or maybe it's the president. I don't know. Maybe it's the president.
Matt - "&" (47:24)
Ooh.
Y Not? (47:25)
The new president.
Dave CDWA (47:26)
Yeah.
Y Not? (47:28)
The agriculture director, whoever, secretary of agriculture. Yeah. Yeah.
Dave CDWA (47:32)
Yeah. Yeah. A.K.A. the president.
Matt - "&" (47:35)
A.K.A.
the President.
Y Not? (47:38)
I still think that they're going to reveal that there's a magic amulet that protected him. Because they sort of reference that again. Yeah.
Matt - "&" (47:44)
Yeah.
Dave CDWA (47:46)
Yeah, that's what I want to know more about. Yeah,
I need Alter to show up and I need some answers. When is Alter going to do something besides burn down a building off panel?
Y Not? (47:56)
Yeah.
Dave CDWA (47:57)
and steal a helicopter and talk on the phone. That's it. That's all she's done.
Y Not? (48:02)
gotta be something to it unless she's like ampersand and is just there for fun.
Dave CDWA (48:04)
Yeah.
Tell you what, if she shows up and kills someone with Yorick with a baseball bat, then I know Kirkman stole some shit from Why the Last Man.
Matt - "&" (48:16)
Yeah, I think so.
Y Not? (48:17)
Yeah, yeah
Matt - "&" (48:25)
All right. I'm out of... Yeah.
Dave CDWA (48:26)
Are we out of questions?
Y Not? (48:27)
That's it. Those are the questions.
Dave CDWA (48:29)
I got one more question. Why did no one ever refer to Yorick as the semen demon?
Y Not? (48:31)
okay.
mean, he gets called all kinds of things. He gets called a rapist. But yeah, that when Victoria shows up, she calls him one. And I was like, is she just referring to all men as rapists or
Matt - "&" (48:40)
good point.
Good point.
Dave CDWA (48:46)
What? When?
Matt - "&" (48:50)
She did,
Dave CDWA (48:53)
yeah, that's right. That's right. I forgot. Yeah.
I hope so, because I don't want to find out later that he raped his sister.
Matt - "&" (49:03)
I think.
Y Not? (49:05)
Well, and that's what it all I'm like, are they trying to allude to that? Because there was multiple points where if you put the pieces together, it could be that. I'm like, I really hope that's that's there's nothing to that. No.
Matt - "&" (49:15)
Oh no... No... Oh no...
Dave CDWA (49:17)
Yeah, I couldn't handle that.
That would shatter my view of the comic in a way that could be... That can't happen.
Y Not? (49:23)
you
Matt - "&" (49:27)
Thank
you.
Y Not? (49:29)
I like that's something that would be a core memory of reading this that you'd remember. Yeah.
Dave CDWA (49:33)
Yeah, you'd think so.
I've read a lot of things since 10 years ago.
Y Not? (49:38)
Yeah, that's true.
Matt - "&" (49:38)
Okay.
Dave CDWA (49:40)
done a lot of things. I've moved four times since then. Yeah. Alright, well, that's it for volume two of Why the Last Man. We'll be back in a week or two. We've upped the schedule a little bit. We're releasing, I think, three times a month now. Matt and I have upped our game a little bit on non-Let's Read episodes. We'll be back with another Why the Last Man, though, in a month.
Y Not? (49:44)
Hell yeah.
Dave CDWA (50:10)
In the meantime, join the discord, share the podcast, tell people you like us, come to the discord and tell me you like us, tell Matt you like us and tell Erik you like us. Or do none of that and remain invisible. I don't care. It's your life. Do what you want. But until we see you or don't, my name is Dave.
Y Not? (50:18)
Do it.
Matt - "&" (50:26)
And I'm Matt.
Y Not? (50:27)
and I'm Erik.
Dave CDWA (50:28)
Take care of yourselves everybody, bye bye.
Matt - "&" (50:30)
Peace.
Y Not? (50:30)
Bye.
